Files 5.4 leans on security and cloud flexibility. Azure Trusted Launch protects cloud-based file servers with a hardware root of trust, NFS shares can be encrypted with TLS and mTLS certificate authentication without dragging Active Directory into it, and AMD-based VMs are now supported on both AWS and Azure. Administrators can restrict command-line access to file server VMs or turn SSH off entirely, configure authenticated NTP, and let legacy clusters adopt asymmetrical disaster recovery automatically on upgrade. The fix list is long: premature out-of-space warnings on SMB shares, latency during heavy file creation and auditing, skipped service principal names during failover, and stalled NearSync replication all get attention.
